Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Maya Train workers blocked both directions of the federal highway at Puerto Aventuras Friday night. The disgruntled group blocked the road in protest to poor housing conditions.
According to workers, the housing provided to them while working on the Maya Train does not not have basic services. The group of workers claimed no water and unsanitary conditions where they live.
Workers claim they company that supplies the temporary housing has failed to meet basic services.
Long lines of traffic quickly accumulated on both sides of the highway due to the blockage. Many motorists got out of their car due to the lack of non-movement. State Police were at the scene briefly, but did not stay.
A similar situation was reported in west Playa del Carmen Friday night with a large group of angry residents claiming constant power outages since Hurricane Beryl. Many residents around the municipality of Solidaridad have protested a lack of services since the passing of the storm.
