Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A road accident claimed the lives of three people near the community of Chumpón in south Quintana Roo. The victims, two men and a woman, were traveling in a red Chevrolet Aveo late Thursday when the driver hit the back of a dump truck.
The accident was reported around 11:00 p.m. on a section of the 307 Carrillo–Tulum highway. According to initial reports, the dump truck was stopped on the side of the road without any lights.
Due to a lack of lighting, it is believed the driver of the car did not see the parked dump truck in time to avoid it.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the three people inside the car had already died.
Elements of the National Guard arrived to secure the area while FGE personnel carried out the relevant investigation. Authorities continue to work on determining whether the lack of lighting on the dump truck was the cause of the accident.
