Cozumel, Q.R. — Three people were reportedly arrested for drug possession in Cozumel Friday. A taxi driver and two of his passengers were taken into custody by elements of the Asipona Navy (National Port System Administration) after being stopped exiting the marina.
The Cozumel taxi driver picked up two men with a cardboard box at the marina. The box was placed in the trunk of the cab.
As they were leaving, the taxi driver was pulled over for a routine inspection. Inside the cardboard box Navy personnel found 20 kilos of pot.
The pot is reported to have arrived by boat and the two men were there to collect. Marina security footage captured the men arriving on a motorcycle pulling a small trailer to collect the box. However, the men changed their mind and hailed a taxi instead.
Upon reaching the exit gate, Navy personnel flagged them down for a vehicle inspection and found the box of drugs. The boat that delivered the box was gone from the marina by the time the inspection took place.
