Quintana Roo municipalities swear in mayors for next term

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — All 11 municipalities in Quintana Roo swore in their mayors Monday. While most were renewals, some were new mayors taking over the municipal position until 2027.

Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, the mayor of Puerto Morelos, was the first to be sworn in again after winning re-election. Josue Nivardo Mena also took his oath as the re-elected mayor of Lázaro Cárdenas as did Atenea Gómez Ricalde of Isla Mujeres.

In Playa del Carmen, Estefanía Mercado Asencio now leads the municipality of Solidaridad as its new mayor after winning the June campaign from Lili Campos, who was running for re-election.

Cozumel also has a new mayor, having sworn in José Luis Chacón Méndez Monday to head the municipality in a three-year term from 2024 to 2027. He won the position in the June elections over mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo who ran for re-election but lost.

In Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mary Hernández Solís retained her position as mayor after being re-elected as did the mayor of Othón P. Blanco, Yensunni Idalia Martínez Hernández.

Cancun residents also re-elected Ana Patricia Peralta de la Pena to continue leading their municipality of Benito Juarez. Erick Noe Borges Yam is still the mayor of Jose Maria Morelos as is Diego Castañón in Tulum and Jose Alfredo Contreras Mendez in the municipality of Bacalar.
