PDC firemen use jaws of life to free passenger in three vehicle highway crash

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen firemen were called to the scene of a highway accident Wednesday in response to a three vehicle crash. Police and paramedics were also at the scene near Punta Venado, approximately 15 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.

It was around 1:00 p.m. when an SUV is reported to have attempted to pass a pickup truck. In the process, the SUV came upon a piece of slow-moving heavy machinery. All three vehicles ended up hitting one another, two of which were found off the Riviera Maya highway.

Playa del Carmen firemen were requested since one person from inside the SUV was trapped. The jaws of life was used to free him. He was transferred to hospital by ambulance.

A total of three people were reported injured in the afternoon highway crash and taken to hospital.

The SPC (Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos) of Solidaridad reported Wednesday that “operational elements and firefighters responded to an emergency call for a vehicle accident near Punta Venado, resulting in three people injured.”
