Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Two men accused of assaulting a police officer during a surveillance tour have been ordered to remain jailed. A Chetumal judge has ordered Guadalupe “N” and Tomás Rosalindo “N” to remain in jail after being charged over the weekend.
The pair are accused of assaulting a municipal police officer in October of 2023 in the town of Santa Rosa. According to a statement by the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), the two men began verbally assaulting the patrolling officers as they drove through the town.
During the patrol, the men told the police to leave, which lead to a physical attack against one of the officers. Both men were eventually picked up on outstanding arrest warrants.
The FGE said “the capture of Guadalupe “N” and Tomás Rosalindo “N” by elements of the Investigative Police was derived from events that occurred on October 28, 2023, in the town of Santa Rosa, when municipal police officers were carrying out patrols.
“When passing by a water sump, they saw a man who was waving his hands and when they approached him, the man asked them to leave the community, in addition to insulting them.
“The situation motivated two uniformed officers to approach the person who was verbally attacking them, however, a group of people came out of a vacant lot and threw stones and sticks at the police officers.
“One of these projectiles hit the victim’s forehead, who fell to the ground where he continued to be assaulted, while his partner was chased by other subjects.”
Both men are facing charges for qualified injuries. If convicted, they could each be sentenced to four years in prison.
