Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — An investigation has been started into the broad daylight murder of a municipal police officer. On Sunday morning, Samuel Moo Tah, a Municipal Police officer, was shot to death meters from his home.
The officer had just finished a night shift and was driving home on his motorcycle when he was shot and killed. Police located his motorcycle and body laying on 76th Street in the Mario Villanueva neighborhood of the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
He was approximately 100 meters from his home at the time of the early morning shooting.
In a statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) said “the FGE of Quintana Roo opened an investigation in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto after the events that occurred where a public servant lost his life as a result of gunshot wounds.
“Authorities from the three levels of government activated a search operation to find the whereabouts of the person or persons responsible for this event. This Social Representation reaffirms its commitment to bring those who violate the law to justice.”

There has been speculation that the murder of the officer was in retaliation to recent arrests of criminal gang members from a group known as Los Chapitos. According to early information, officer Samuel Moo Tah was responsible for several of those arrests.
