Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A construction worker was killed Monday afternoon in a freak accident. Cecilio “R”, 26, was working near a large metal machine when it was struck by lightning.
According to early information, the young Maya Train worker was operating a stone crushing machine when the storm arrived. As rains began and the storm passed overhead, a bolt of lightning hit the machine, killing the young worker.
The onsite accident happened on section 6 around 2:00 p.m. A large area of nearly 20 meters was affected by the strike, which left some nearby brush smoldering.
