Cozumel, Q.R. — A young islander is facing possible legal charges after authorities spent eight hours searching for him by air, land and sea. The man, who has not been named, was searched for by state officials Friday after he was reported lost at sea.
The local resident was deemed lost at sea after falling off a pier Thursday night. A search for him resumed first thing Friday. A Marina vessel was deployed along with a jet ski to scour the water while personnel from a helicopter search the coastline.
A group of search and rescue personnel were also deployed on foot, walking the area where he was last seen.
On Friday morning, Seguridad Ciudadana Cozumel reported “the search for a missing person who went into the sea last night continues by land, sea and sky. Personnel from the State Navy, Civil Protection and Public Security with a helicopter and the municipality continue the search.”
However Citizen Security Cozumel searches failed to locate the missing youth. On Friday afternoon, the man they had searched for appeared at a local fire station on his own.

The man reportedly jumped off the Aldora pier in Cozumel after an argument with his girlfriend. Local authorities say there is a possibility he will face charges.
Margarita Vázquez Barrios, the General Secretary of the Cozumel City Council, and Alfredo Arellano, the Director of Cozumel Civil Protection confirmed that the man is safe and that they are looking into possibly laying charges in response to the deployment of resources in his search.

According to the testimony of the young man, he jumped off the dock in Aldora where the current dragged him out to sea. He was able to swim to shore from where he went home.
“This type of irresponsible action cannot go unpunished,” said Vázquez Barrios in a press conference with local media Saturday.
