Former Solidaridad mayor found connected to 51 million missing peso

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A hearing held Thursday has found former Playa del Carmen mayor Mauricio Góngora Escalante, related to the crime of embezzlement in excess of 51 million peso.

The former municipal president of Solidaridad was found linked to the crime of irregular performance of the public function for more than 51.6 million peso in alleged ghost companies.

The accusations come after an investigation by head auditor, Manuel Palacios Herrera of Síndico Municipal de Solidaridad, whose investigation provided enough evidence for the judge to link Góngora Escalante to the crime of irregular function.

The allegations come after an audit revealed 53 contracts in excess of 51 million peso were made during his term as mayor of Solidaridad.
