Former Puerto Morelos city council member on the run arrested inside international airport

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A former Puerto Morelos city council member has been located and taken into custody after years on the run. On Wednesday, Arturo “N”, who served as the former manager of the Puerto Morelos city council during the 2018-2021 period was arrested from a Baja California airport.

The man was taken into custody in the city of Tijuana after a failed attempt to hop aboard an international flight. Authorities did not say where he was headed. Baja California officials announced his Wednesday arrest from the Tijuana International Airport.

Arturo “N” was wanted by the Quintana Roo Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption and the Superior Audit Office (Aseqroo) for multi-million peso damage to public assets that date back to 2020.

According to authorities, his identity was confirmed inside the airport by the Federal Investigation Police of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), who arrested him.

The National Institute of Migration (INM) also intervened due to the nature of the arrest. He has since been handed over to Quintana Roo authorities for a transfer to Playa del Carmen where he will be held.

“Arturo “N” served as a manager during the 2018-2021 municipal administration. His arrest was the result of a complaint filed by the State Superior Audit Office which led to an investigation into a contract signed in 2020 by the Puerto Morelos City Council,” authorities reported after his arrest.

Arturo “N” is accused of his probable participation in the illicit use of power and influence peddling, causing serious financial damage to the municipal administration. He is also accused of taking advantage of his position of power to benefit himself and grant favors in exchange for influence.
