Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Five people have been charged with extorting a construction company in Puerto Morelos. Apolinar “N”, Ricardo Perfecto “N”, Mauricio “N”, Armando “N” and Leydi Yadira “N” will be tried for demanding 40,000 pesos a week from the unnamed company.
In March of this year, the group of five initially demanded 20,000 pesos a month for ‘floor rights’ from the company, but quickly increased that amount to 20,000 per week. Within a month, their extortion fees increased to 40,000 per week.
“They are accused of events that occurred on or after March 11 of this year, when they threatened the victim, who was in charge of a construction site in the municipality of Puerto Morelos, demanding the amount of 20,000 pesos per month for “floor rights”.
“The next day, three men with firearms arrived to inform the victim that they would collect the money weekly starting March 16 of this year. They later left. The victim began paying 20,000 pesos each week, but in mid-April the fee increased to 40,000 pesos, an amount that he paid until recently,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported.
According to the State Attorney General (FGE), each could be sentenced to 37 years if found guilty.
