Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — UPDATED: Firemen rushed to the scene of an early morning highway accident that left four people trapped inside a combi. Felipe Carrillo Puerto firemen arrived at the accident site along with ambulances near the Chumpon junction where they located the badly damaged van.
Three passengers from inside and the driver were rushed to hospital after being freed by firemen. The front end of the van was crumpled inward, trapping those inside after being hit by another vehicle that kept going.
According to early information, the driver of a semi that was parked on the shoulder entered the highway, failing to yield to the oncoming van. The driver of the public transport van was unable to avoid slamming into the rear of the semi.
The highway speed crash left the van destroyed. The driver of the semi did not stop. Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene around 3:00 a.m. to attend to the injured.
