Driver loses tons of Maya Train ballast along federal highway

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Municipal cleaners were left with a huge task Thursday after a semi driver lost its extended load of ballast. Several tons of the material meant for Maya Train use was spilled mostly in the ditch along the federal 307 when the driver drove off the road.

Transit authorities responded to the accident report on the San Luis-Betania section of highway in Felipe Carrillo Puerto where the twisted semi came to a stop.

The driver is alleged to have lost control and over corrected with a swerve into the opposite lane. The over correction landed him in the highway ditch where his cab twisted after the extended load overturned.

One of the highway lanes was shut while authorities cleared the road of debris and the partially ditched vehicle.
