Cozumel police and firemen relocate croc and boas from island homes

Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel police, in coordination with island firemen, were tasked with several animal removals this week. Island residents requested the assistance after finding unwanted reptiles around their houses.

One crocodile and two boas were captured Monday night and Tuesday after homeowners found them on their properties. One of the snakes was found curled up near the engine of a parked car.

The crocodile and both boas, captured from different island areas, were measured at more than one meter each. All three reptiles were relocated to more suitable areas of the island after being removed from the properties.

In a brief statement, Cozumel Police reported “Municipal Police, in coordination with firefighters and ecology, managed to secure two boas and a crocodile to safeguard the integrity of the citizenry.

“In different reports from the citizens, a boa measuring one meter and seventy centimeters, one measuring one meter forty and a crocodile measuring one meter forty centimeters were seized.

“The ecology sub-directorate stated that in coordination with Profepa, they were given the appropriate handling and transfer to where appropriate.”
