Cozumel, Q.R. — Two cars and two motorcycles, along with a police truck and a house, were damaged when the driver of a Cozumel police unit crashed into them. The five vehicle crash happened Friday evening on Miguel Hidalgo C Street between 90 and 90 bis.
The officer driving the police truck was in pursuit of an alleged drug dealer on a motorcycle when he took a wide corner onto Miguel Hidalgo Street and hit a parked car head on.
That initial head-on crash eventually involved a second car and two motorcycles that belonged to the house the police truck also crashed into. A Cozumel family were left bewildered after realizing a police unit had smashed into the front of their home.
It was there the truck finally came to a stop. A private security camera on a home near the corner of the Avenue captured the fleeing motorcycle driver and pursuing police truck as it slammed into a parked car.
In a public statement Saturday, the Citizen Security of Cozumel said the accident involved only material damage and no serious injuries were reported.

The Public Security Directorate reports that on September 6 at approximately 5:25 p.m., a traffic incident was reported on Miguel Hidalgo C Street, between 90 and 90 bis, involving a police unit, two private vehicles and two motorcycles.
“The police personnel, who were carrying out crime prevention and deterrence tasks, observed a male individual on board a motorcycle in a suspicious attitude, transporting apparently illegal objects.
“When they told him to stop, the subject ignored them and accelerated, which started a chase. The chase ended in a collision between the patrol car, two private vehicles and two motorcycles.
