Cozumel officer grazed by bullet in targeted police booth attack

Cozumel, Q.R. — A Cozumel police officer was injured Friday night after being grazed by a bullet. The officer was hit when men opened fire against an island police house.

The attack took place against the police booth on Miguel Hidalgo and 70th Street around 11:30 p.m. The injured officer was treated at a local hospital for an injury that was not considered serious.

The casita was hit twice. Nearby residents reported hearing gunfire to emergency services. One of the bullets hit a senior officer who was on guard at the time. In response to the targeted shooting, other police booths were shut for the night as ordered by island Director Marine Fernando González Felipe.
