Coastal drug finds now include Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The finding of blocks of drugs continues along the coast of Quintana Roo. On Tuesday, navy personnel on foot patrol in Puerto Morelos located a block of marijuana.

While not a significant discovery, the finding is believed part of a load of blocks located on the east side of Cozumel on the same day.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the Navy through the Ninth Naval Region, personnel from the institution carrying out a prevention and ground surveillance tour along the coast were notified of a suspicious package.

The package was found by hotel guests in sargassum. The guests then notified hotel staff who called Puerto Morelos police.

The package ended up being a half-a-kilo of marijuana. It was found on the beach next to a hotel in Puerto Morelos. The statement indicates that naval personnel provided support to the Puerto Morelos Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) to locate and secure the package.

The package has since been transferred to the Attorney General’s Office in Cancun.

Earlier this month, a boat transporting 3 tons of cocaine was located off the coast of Mahahual.

Over the past few months, dozens of washed up blocks of drugs continue to be found along the coast. Earlier this month in a joint operation, marina personnel from Isla Mujeres and Chetumal seized a speed boat off the coast of Mahahual transporting 3 tons of cocaine.
