Chetumal bar seized for illegal activities reduced to ash in early morning fire

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal bar that had been shut down by the state during a human trafficking operation has been reduced to ash. Early this morning, firemen were notified of a blaze inside La Isla de Tris bar.

Emergency services received the call around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday that the building was on fire. A single fire truck with three crew arrived at the scene on Heroes Avenue and Camelias Street to a completely engulfed building.

Emergency services were at the site more than an hour Tuesday extinguishing the wood and palapa grass-topped structure.

According to early information, firemen located combustible material at the scene, leading the investigation to an intentionally set blaze.

The bar was shut down in April during a human trafficking operation where police rescued 36 women.

According to local media, this is the second time a fire has been reported at the bar since it was seized by the state for illegal activities.
