Bus destroyed by dozing driver passing through Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Paramedics rushed a driver to a Cancun hospital early Wednesday morning after destroying his bus. The driver of the bus is reported to have fallen asleep at the wheel on the federal highway while passing through Puerto Morelos.

The Puerto Morelos fire department, who attended the early morning accident scene, warned motorists of the “serious accident on the federal highway” that happened around 2:00 a.m. According to early information, the driver of the bus dozed while passing through the municipality.

During his doze, he swerved his bus out of his lane toward the right where he hit a large metal overhead highway sign. The impact destroyed the front of the bus. The entire windshield of the bus was shattered while the passenger side of the bus buckled from the hit.

Due to the excessive speed, the metal highway sign was collapsed at its base and found laying partially embedded over top of the front of the bus.

“Caution, serious accident on federal highway 307, lanes from Cancun to Puerto Morelos, at the height of Plaza del Puerto, side lanes closed and the right center lane, emergency services working,” Bomberos Puerto Morelos reported early Wednesday morning.
