Bicyclist left for dead in Felipe Carrillo Puerto hit and run

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A coroner was called to the scene of a fatal bicycle accident in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. A man was killed after he was hit by a fleeing vehicle along a section of federal highway.

The fatal hit and run was reported early Wednesday outside the Mayan town of Chunhuhub. Police found the man’s bicycle bent and laying in the middle of the 293 highway. His body was located a distance away on the shoulder.

The hit and run reportedly happened around 4:00 a.m. outside Chunhuhub. Emergency 9-1-1 was alerted to the sighting of a body on the road. Municipal police officers stationed in Chunhuhub and paramedics from the Red Cross attended the accident scene.

Paramedics confirmed that the cyclist no longer had vital signs. Police cordoned off the area while they waited for the coroner while National Guard Highway diverted traffic. The deceased has not been identified. There are no leads into the vehicle that hit the man.
