American driver arrested entering Mexico with suitcase of marijuana

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua — An American driver from the U.S. state of Georgia was taken into custody Wednesday along with his trunk load of pot. The unnamed man was stopped for an inspection when attempting to enter Mexico.

The physical inspection of his vehicle took place at the Reforma international bridge in Ciudad Juárez by the National Customs Agency of Mexico. During the inspection, customs agents located a total of 29 packages of marijuana.

Members of the National Guard arrested the American who was found transporting more than 14 kilograms of marijuana in his vehicle.

“In the trunk of the car among items of clothing they found a plastic bag containing nine packages of green, dry grass with the characteristics of marijuana as well as a suitcase with another 20 packages with the possible narcotic, for which reason the person was arrested,” Guardia Nacional reported.

The male driver from Georgia was arrested and his vehicle and pot seized by federal authorities.
