Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Two afternoon accidents on the Puerto Morelos highway have affected traffic heading toward Cancun. Puerto Morelos firemen attended the scene of a single vehicle rollover around 1:00 p.m. Friday.
The large industrial truck was found laying on its side along the federal highway near the area of Crococun after rolling. The entire cab was pushed inward and the windshield smashed when the driver is reported to have fallen asleep at the wheel.
An ambulance, along with other emergency personnel, were at the scene to attend to the injured driver. Puerto Morelos firemen reported briefly on the accident saying “an accident (overturn) of a dump truck that was left across the lane from Puerto Morelos to Cancun on federal highway 307, at km 323, before reaching Crococun, is reported.”
Traffic was reduced to a single lane around the accident site due to the rollover and downed power pole the truck hit along the way. The driver was treated at the scene for minor abrasions before being taken into custody.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. a second highway accident was reported by Bomberos Puerto Morelos. Municipal firemen reported being on scene of a two vehicle rear end. The accident happened on a section of highway leading to Cancun.
Municipal firemen also posted a brief notice regarding that Friday afternoon accident. “Caution, accident on federal highway 307, Puerto Morelos to Cancun lanes, approximately km 329, emergency services working.”
At the scene they located two pickup trucks stopped in the left lane after one rear-ended the other. There were no injuries reported in the second accident.
