Cozumel, Q.R. — Five shell casings were lifted from the scene of an afternoon shooting in residential Cozumel. Police responding to the 911 emergency report of a man shot arrived to find him dead on a sidewalk outside his home.
The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday along 75th Avenue. There, authorities found the dead body of Joel “N”, an island taxi driver. He had been shot several times at close range.
At least 21 pieces of evidence was collected from the scene including a cell phone and a bloody foot print. One of two men aboard a motorcycle are reported to have begun shooting at the taxi driver as he walked out of his home.
The body was removed from the scene in a hurst since the official Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) vehicle was not available due to mechanical issues. Island officers continue their investigation and search for those responsible.
