Cancun, Q.R. — Police in Cancun say they have arrested a dozen people believed related to a series of criminal assaults in the area, one of which is the recent deadly shooting of a Cuban male inside a Cancun car wash Saturday.
The arrests took place in two groups Monday afternoon as part of an open investigation into several armed attacks registered in the city. The capture of the groups were specified in Region 96 and saw police implement their Red Code protocols during the arrests.
Upon seeing police enter the area, many of them fled on foot, seeking refuge in various homes, however, police searched the homes, arresting 12. Of those arrested, six were kept in detention and the other six released.
Those detained, who range in age from 18 to 33, will be presented before the State Attorney General’s Office. Police also seized one vehicle, one motorcycle, two 9-millimeter firearms and a total of 44 doses of drugs.
