Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An alleged thief was physically assaulted by an angry mob of citizens after attempting to rob a store with a toy gun. The incident occurred in central Playa del Carmen around 7:00 p.m. when Emergency 911 received a report citing a group of people had surrounded an alleged thief.
The youth was caught by local residents after attempting to rob a small store with a toy gun along 30th Avenue, however, the store owners were not intimidated upon realizing the weapon was fake. When they began to yell for help from other merchants, the youth fled.
He was caught by local residents who physically assaulted him as “punishment”. Municipal Police arrived to rescue the young man who was left lying on the ground.
