Fonatur presents approved section 5 Maya Train MIA to Yucatan judge

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) for section 5 south of the Maya Train has been approved. According to the Semarnat Ecological Gazette, the document was submitted on May 17 and approved on June 21.

On June 23, the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) presented the approved MIA before Judge Adrián Fernando Novelo Pérez, head of the First District Court in Yucatán, to request that the definitive suspension be removed. The request was made since the next hearing regarding the suspension was set for July 28.

Fonatur spokesperson Fernando Vázquez Rosas has said that once approved, injunctions that are holding up the construction will be discarded.

A Yucatan court has agreed to review the appeal on July 1. If the approved MIA is accepted by the court, section 5 south, which runs from Playa del Carmen to Tulum, could resume.
