Mexico City, Mexico — The Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (SRE) says several Mexican families have been evacuated from Kiev, Ukraine to Romania. SRE head, Marcelo Ebrard, shared photos on social networks of a group of Mexicans who have been evacuated.
Ebrard says that they have sent a delegation to look for more compatriots at the border as the evacuation of Mexican families continues. A bus of Mexican nationals was photographed Monday leaving Kiev, Ukraine, and heading to Siret, Romania, Ebrard reported on Tuesday.
The foreign minister explained that the group is headed by Ambassador Olga García Guillén who is also on board the vehicle. The nationals will be received by Guillermo Ordorica, Mexico’s ambassador to Romania.
A delegation, headed by the Head of the Foreign Ministry Office, Daniel Millán, will continue to Siret, where they will receive a second group of Mexicans who will cross the Romanian border by land.
Another group with 18 Mexican nationals are leaving Ukrainian territory to cross the border with Romania, however, the lines of people are reportedly kilometers long.
At least 26 Mexicans who were successful in escaping the conflict between Ukraine and Russia will return to Mexico aboard the Mexican Air Force plane. The plane was scheduled to leave Romania Thursday, however, that plan may be delayed by a wait for more Mexican nationals.
