Bacalar, Q.R. — A man that survived being kidnapped from Bacalar and then shot has been identified as a criminal gang leader. Authorities found the injured man along with a dead woman on Wednesday.
The pair were located along a highway near the community of Manuel Avila Camacho in the south. At the time, the man explained he and the woman had been kidnapped from Bacalar and shot.
While the deceased woman has not been identified, the man told police he was Carlos Israel May Pech. Pech was taken to a Chetumal hospital and admitted for a gunshot wound to his right arm.
While there, police ran his personal information through Platform Mexico were they learned his real name was Jhony Israel N, a known leader of the criminal group La Barredora that operates in the northern zone of Quintana Roo.
They also learned that Jhony N had been recently released from Cozumel prison. The alleged criminal remains in the custody of the Ministerial Investigation Police (PMI).
