Laying of tiles begins along Playa’s Fifth Avenue

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Laying of the final tile stones has begun along a section of Fifth Avenue in central Playa del Carmen. Mayor Laura Beristain was on site to verify progress of the project that has seen the entire central area remodeled.

Beristain says the remodeling of Fifth Avenue, Fundadores Park and surrounding streets is on time, noting that there are around 200 workers dedicated to completing the project. She says that in coming months, the entire area will have a new image that will give the pedestrian artery a boost during the revival of the tourism sector.

During the work tour, several city council workers also verified the beginning stages of the laying of the ground tiles, which will be placed between 6th and 4th streets north. Over the next several days, adocrete will be applied to provide greater durability and permeability.

The central city project includes the improvement of lighting, drainage, electricity, level corrections and the addition of absorption wells in floodplain sections. The project also includes modernization of urban furniture and an overhaul to streets parallel to Fifth Avenue, which are entrances to the beach.
