Cancun, Q.R. — As a farewell meeting, State Governor Carlos Joaquín González met with the Consul General of the United States Courtney Beale in Cancun to discuss security and tourism before her departure.
Last week, Beale announced that she will end her role as Consul General of the United States in Mérida, Yucatán and will assume another diplomatic position commissioned to her by the US government.
In a social media message, Carlos Joaquin stated that he had the pleasure of receiving the Consul and that “in Quintana Roo, we work to assist tourists and visitors from the United States since each year, millions of North Americans visit our cities.”
On June 17, Courtney Beale announced in that she will return to the US for a new assignment after heading the US consular office in Mérida for three years.
The US official said that in the next week, she will have finished her term in Mexico and will be reassigned to Washington DC, but not before handing over the reins of the consular office to a new diplomatic attaché.
