Investigation started into murder of two Lázaro Cárdenas youths

Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — Authorities are investigating the murder of two youths in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas. One of the deceased is reported to be from Kantunilkín and the other, from Holbox.

Both bodies were found shot and dumped in a green area in the community of Santa Melba late Thursday. The incident happened Thursday evening when they were reportedly chased by subjects on a motorcycle in a targeted attack.

The deceased have been identified as 21 year old Emir “C” from the town of Kantunilkín and 15 year old Randi “C” from the island of Holbox. Both bodies suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The bodies were located after authorities began to receive reports of gunfire by witnesses who saw the men in a “gunfight” on a section of highway.

Local reports say one of the youths killed was a relative of the mayor, however, that has not been confirmed by authorities. In a statement, the State Attorney General said they are investigating the murders, which they report to be drug related.

“The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports that, following the discovery of two lifeless bodies in a community in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, an investigation has been opened to find the person or persons responsible for this unfortunate incident.

“Initial inquiries by the Investigative Police of this Social Representation indicate that this incident is related to drug crimes. The State Attorney General’s Office reiterates its commitment to the prosecution and enforcement of the law under the principle of zero impunity.”
