Mexico City, Mexico — The hearing against Ricardo Anaya, who ran for the Mexican presidency in 2018, was set to begin Monday morning. However, Judge Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in the Norte prison in Mexico City decreed a recess moments later.
The recess was called after the defense of Anaya Cortés reported that they do not know the content of the more than a thousand additional pages of the investigation folder that the FGR gave him October 1.
Anaya is being imputed by the FGR for bribery, criminal association and money laundering. The FGR prosecuted an investigation against Ricardo Anaya after a complaint was filed by the former director of Pemex, Emilio Lozoya Austin in which he revealed that he gave multi-million dollar bribes to legislators to approve the Electricity Reform.
Prior to the hearing, the PAN politician released a series of four videos in which he “shows” that the accusations against him “are absurd and false”, since he affirms that everything is part of a “perverse plan” by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and Emilio Lozoya.
