Former Pemex CEO Emilio Lozoya to remain in custody

Mexico City, Mexico –The former director of Pemex has been found connected to the crime of operations with resources of illicit origin and will remain in custody.

During his trial, Judge José Artemio Zúñiga Mendoza linked the former Pemex head Emilio Lozoya, to the crime of operations with resources of illicit origin in the case of Agronitrogenados. The judge considered that Lozoya was aware that, when acquiring a property, he used resources from illegal activity with the purpose of concealing its origin in order to appear lawful.

The judge also took into account the current health status of Lozoya, allowing him to remain in Ángeles del Pedregal hospital under the supervision of Ministerial Police. Lozoya has had his passport confiscated and his ankle outfitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Emilio Ricardo Lozoya Austin was CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos from 2012 to 2016.
