Forest fire in north Quintana Roo 90 percent controlled

Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — The San José forest fire in the northern municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas is reported to be 90 percent under control. On Sunday, state authorities reported on the progress being made to put it out.

The Quintana Roo State Incident Management Team says the fire has grown to 2,710 hectares and is 90 percent under control and 85 percent cleared, which is good news.

In a CGC statement, the state recognized “the hard work that is being done to control the San José forest fire and that measures are being implemented to minimize its environmental impact.

“We thank all the combatants and personnel involved in extinction work for their courage and dedication in protecting nature.”

Forest firefighters from CONAFOR of the state of Yucatán have been integrated into the San José fire battle efforts.
