Firemen respond to Molotov cocktail attack against Playa del Carmen business

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Emergency services were sent to the scene of a fire where individuals tossed Molotov cocktails at a business. Firemen were on Constituyentes Avenue Tuesday night to extinguish the fire that left the inside burned and facade scorched.

Authorities did not identify the business September 16, 2026.

The incident happened on Constituyentes Avenue and 40th Street.

According to initial police reports, individuals threw incendiary devices directly into the commercial building, sparking a fire that threatened to spread to neighboring businesses.

The noise and thick column of smoke alerted neighbors who made the report to emergency services. The Fire Department arrived at the scene, managing to control the flames.

Once fully extinguished, personnel entered the building to carry out the corresponding inspection. According to witnesses, the owners of the business had received extortion threats in recent days.

Police have not disclosed an official cause of the fire or line of investigation.
