Feds secure Puerto Morelos property for environmental crimes

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Federal authorities have seized a Puerto Morelos property along Ruta de los Cenotes. The property was seized Tuesday due to a complaint for environmental crimes.

The Puerto Morelos property was searched and seized Tuesday.

Police and National Guard searched the property Tuesday, locating heavy machinery to drill wells, tools for clearing land and homes under construction. The seizure was made by the State Attorney General (FGE) in collaboration with the Navy and National Guard.

Authorities executed a search warrant on a property located on the Puerto Morelos – Leona Vicario Ruta de los Cenotes highway for acts possibly constituting a crime against the environment and urban development to the detriment of society the FGE reported in a statement.

“Following the complaint filed with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, Wildlife, and Urban Development, the FGE initiated and compiled an investigation file in which it gathered the relevant legal information. As part of the proceedings, it requested and obtained a court order.

Authorities also seized the heavy machinery being used on the property.

“Upon entering the property, investigators found tools suitable for clearing work, heavy machinery for drilling wells, a backhoe, as well as houses under construction made of wood, bricks and cement, among other evidence,” they reported.

Authorities collected the evidence found for inclusion in the investigation. The FGE said “once the procedure was completed, the property was secured by the agents, who affixed the official seals.”
