Mexico City, Mexico –President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced that the current Secretary of Education (SEP), Esteban Moctezuma, will be the next Mexican ambassador to the United States. His appointment has been made to replace Martha Bárcena, who recently announced her early retirement.
“I have decided, within the framework of the change of government in the United States, to appoint, once the entire procedure is completed, Esteban Moctezuma. He is going to be the next Mexican ambassador to the United States,” the president announced during his morning conference.
For the time being, Esteban Moctezuma will remain head of the SEP until his approval for the position. During the press conference, Moctezuma thanked the president for the appointment, saying that he will wait for the approval of the United States and the ratification of the Senate.
Moctezuma has been asked to finish the year to help the government prepare for the return to face-to-face classes in the green states and plan school activities for states in a yellow epidemiological light.
