Cancun, Q.R. — After the temporary separation of Alberto Capella from his position as Secretario de Seguridad Pública del estado de Quintana Roo, Governor Carlos Joaquín has appointed Lucio Hernández Gutiérrez in his place.

The temporary appointment will remain while officials continue with their internal investigation into events that took place during the November 9th protest in central Cancun.

“Our main objective is to recover the peace and tranquility of each and everyone, proceeding under the strictest adherence to law and rigorous respect for human rights,” Gutiérrez said.

He said he is committed to working hand-in-hand with society, the private sector and the police with whom they will provide continuous and specialized training to have elements that Quintana Roo deserves.

On Tuesday night, governor Carlos Joaquín announced that he made the decision to accept the request for the removal of Alberto Capella Ibarra from office during the investigation.

The separation, he clarified, is for the “complete in-depth investigation” being conducted by the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office and Internal Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Public Security. He added that the investigation is to determine those responsible for the attack on protesters and reporters on November 9th in Cancun.
