Cancun motorists brace as year-long rehabilitation project for Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard set to start

Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun is about to undergo a major makeover for its main artery, Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard. Cancun City Hall has been announcing the start of the major rehabilitation project, which is set to begin in coming days.

In a statement, the city says the Municipality of Benito Juárez will benefit greatly from the project that will see the rehabilitation of Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and the modernization of the road junction of the Cancun International Airport.

The plan was made public January 29 in Cancun by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who presented it as part of a 6 billion peso project package.

Lourdes Latife Cardona Muza from the Cancun City Hall says that since 2021, municipal authorities have made the recurring request that the boulevard will be completely renovated. Renovation of the boulevard will improve city mobility and reduce travel times, she said adding that 356 direct jobs and 1,423 indirect jobs will be created.

The Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard makeover will take approximately 12 months to complete and cost around 1.3 billion peso.
