Chetumal, Q.R. — Local authorities have issued a missing persons alert for a Chetumal taxi driver after his cab was found abandoned. Police are searching for 59 year old Candelario Murillo López who they say is believed to have been kidnapped.
His vehicle was found abandoned Wednesday morning on Naranjal Street and Payo Obispo Street in the La Esperanza neighborhood.
Residents reported the suspicious presence of the vehicle that they found deserted.
Local authorities have confirmed a lack of communication with the driver of the taxi.
According to information released by the public prosecutor’s office, Murillo López was last seen on September 16 in the city of Chetumal. At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a white turtleneck shirt, jeans and black boots.
Officers cordoned off the area where his cab was found to collect evidence. Authorities are maintaining a search and investigation operation to locate the taxi driver and determine the cause of his disappearance.
