Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Another former Puerto Morelos city council member has been arrested by Investigative Police. The arrest took place late Thursday. On Friday, the State Attorney General reported that Manuel Alejandro “N” was detained for improper use of functions.
“The detainee is accused of not completing a public infrastructure and paving project in neighborhoods of Puerto Morelos, causing a loss to the municipal coffers of 7,947,127 pesos,” the FGE reported.
“The State Attorney General’s Office reports that elements of the Investigative Police assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Combating Corruption completed an arrest warrant against Manuel Alejandro “N” for his probable participation in events possibly constituting the crime of illicit use of powers and powers of the public service to the detriment of the public administration of the Puerto Morelos City Council.”
The now detained person, the second person involved in the aforementioned crime, worked as department head of the Construction Directorate in the 2018-2021 municipal administration. He is accused of not completing a public infrastructure and paving project in neighborhoods of Puerto Morelos, causing a loss to the municipal coffers of nearly 8 million pesos.
“While the projects in question were not complete, they paid for hem and justified them by pretending to have completed the work, a crime in which several of the then municipal administration officials participated,” the FGE added.
“The arrest warrant originates from a complaint filed by the head of the Investigation Directorate of the Superior State Audit who declared that during the 2018-2021 municipal administration, the corresponding agency hired, on July 22, 2020, a company for the execution of infrastructure works,” the agency explained.
Last week, police executed an arrest warrant against José Antonio “N” who has since been charged with the use illegal attributions and faculties of the public service to the detriment of the public administration of the H. City Council of Puerto Morelos.
