Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A fatal accident between a van and motorcycle has left two dead in the municipality of Puerto Morelos.
The highway accident happened Saturday night at 9:20 p.m. when a transport van traveling along the Ruta de los Cenotes collided head-on with an Italkia motorcycle carrying two people. The two vehicles hit at Kilometer 23 where the couple were knocked off the motorcycle and onto the pavement.
Paramedics arrived to resuscitate the couple, however, they were pronounced on scene.
The roadway was littered with fragments of the Yucatan-plated Italkia, while the transport van sustained substantial damage to its front end.
Preliminary reports say the van, which was from a tour company, failed to see the oncoming motorcycle. At the scene were extensive brake marks. The bike was found in the brush approximately seven meters from the crash site.
