Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Two people were killed and five injured in a car accident Sunday night when two vehicles collided in front of Super Aki in Puerto Morelos.
The accident happened along the Playa del Carmen-Cancun highway at the entrance to Puerto Morelos.
The occupants of both vehicles were trapped in the twisted metal of their vehicles due to the extensive impact. Firefighters from the municipality of Puerto Morelos were called to remove those inside.
Two cars, a Golf and an Aveo, were involved in the high-speed-lane accident that left two dead and five injured, one of which was a child.
Vehicular traffic was closed in that section of the road in both directions while local and federal police agents arrived to tend to the accident.
There was no official word on what caused the accident.
