Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — Another Maya Train station has been inaugurated, which adds to the nearly-complete route set for a September inauguration. On Tuesday, officials participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the Nuevo XCan Tren Maya station in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.
The new Maya Train station is located at a strategic point nearly halfway between Valladolid, Yucatan and Cancun, Quintana Roo. The now-operating station can also serve train travelers for the island of Holbox, Solferino and the Port of Chiquilá.
Captain Gulmaro Vargas Hernández of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and head of the Nuevo X-Can railway station project, said this new station will become the gateway to the region’s tourist corridor.
This project will not only benefit tourism, but will also boost economic growth through the provision of local agricultural products, foods and services that will be sold at the platform.
He says the increase in travel passengers will also mean an increase in transportation demand in taxis and mototaxis.
Around 11:00 a.m., passengers arrived from Palenque, Chiapas, bound for Cancun. The train made a stop at the Nuevo XCan station to collect additional passengers heading for the city of Cancun.
