Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — A search team has located a missing Canadian reported lost in Mayan jungle. The 47-year-old man, who was reported missing after failing to return home Saturday, was found Monday.
An official missing persons report was filed with state authorities Sunday after Steeve Poirier left his home in the community of Ignaico Zaragoza Saturday. A specialized search team set out to find him in his last known whereabouts in dense Mayan jungle in the the state’s central area of of Lázaro Cárdenas.
According to Roberto Bravo Peña, the General Director of Citizen Security, a search team was put together that included personnel from the municipal and state police, Civil Protection and firefighters from Lázaro Cárdenas.
The team activated the Protocol for the Search for Missing Persons Monday. After an early morning start, the coordinated search effort was successful in finding Steeve Poirier.
The 47-year-old Canuck was found by members of the search team around 2:15 p.m. in isolated jungle. He was located approximately five kilometers from his starting point in deep jungle heading toward Playa del Carmen.
According to the police report, when he was found, he was disoriented, dehydrated, starved and physically exhausted. He was transferred to hospital for medical attention before being released to his family.
