Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — City council of Puerto Morelos has said that they are anticipating the construction of their first fire station. Municipal head Laura Fernández Piña said that in coordination with the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) and support from Governor Carlos Joaquín González, Puerto Morelos will move forward with its construction.
“Our municipality is located in an area vulnerable to climatic phenomena that includes not only hurricanes and tropical storms, but also forest and urban fires, which requires our firefighters have a decent space, equipment and be in a strategic location to respond immediately in the event of any emergency,” she explained.
The mayor said that for this reason, the construction of the first fire station in Puerto Morelos will be located on the grounds of the sports unit in the Pescadores neighborhood behind the seafood packing plant.
Laura Fernández noted that the new fire hall will be 1,071 square meters of building infrastructure, which will have a lobby, meeting room, two offices, communication area, toilets, cellar, multipurpose room, hangar, clothing area, kitchen, dining room and waiting and guard room on the ground floor, while on the upper floor there will be toilets, a gym and sleeping areas.
A date for the start of construction or an estimated completion time was not provided.
