Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Police assisted a man Sunday night who pleaded with a security guard for help after escaping his abductors. The unnamed man ran inside a mall for help after being abducted from the town of Akumal.

The visibly distressed man ran toward the first security guard he saw inside a grocery store pleading for police help. According to initial reports, the man arrived at the shopping centre wearing only khaki pants.
He had bruises on his face and was in a highly emotional state while explaining he had been held captive and managed to escape. Security personnel called police who arrived along with an ambulance.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics who determined his injuries were non-life-threatening.
He was placed in the custody of Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) police who then questioned the man.
According to his statement, he had been abducted in the town of Akumal and was able to escape his captor’s vehicle during a momentary distraction. He ran from the vehicle toward the shopping mall where he found a security guard.

Investigative Police (PDI) from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) were called in to collect an official statement and start an investigation into the abduction.
