Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — Local authorities made an arrest Thursday after an exchange of gunfire between wanted criminals. The shootout and subsequent arrest took place in the town of Kantunilkin early Thursday afternoon.
Two men were involved in a chase and exchange of gunfire that left one gunman dead. Police, who were armed with an arrest warrant, shut the road to Chiquilá while in search of the man they sought for a recent kidnapping.
During the police chase, the vehicle driven by the gunmen ended up overturned on a section of highway. The shot criminal was taken to hospital but later died. The second gunman involved, Lorenzo Antonio “N”, was captured.
In a statement, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) said “in compliance with an arrest warrant in the town of Kantunilkín, in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, a person was injured by a gunshot wound and subsequently, as a result of this, lost his life.
“The detainee is Lorenzo Antonio “N”, accused of his probable participation in the crime of aggravated kidnapping.
“This Social Representation clarifies that the persecution generated by the fulfillment of the judicial mandate occurred, as a reference, 3 kilometers from an educational center. At no time was the integrity of those who were there at risk.
“The State Attorney General’s Office reiterates its commitment to bring those who break the law to justice.”
