Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Members of the Puerto Morelos fire department were called to the scene of a palapa fire that started in a centrally located craft store Sunday. Firemen led by the director of Firefighters, León Salas Licea, responded to the 1:00 p.m. fire and were successful in preventing flames from spreading to other nearby businesses.
According to a statement from the municipality of Puerto Morelos, the fire began in a craft store located in front of the Parque del Casco Antiguo in Old Town. Civil Protection personnel cordoned off the area to prevent people from approaching.
According to reports from municipal authorities, no injuries or loss of human life were reported, only material damage to the establishment, which included significant roof damage. The municipal council reports that government authorities are already in the process of determining the cause of the fire.
